With only 47 staterooms, American Star is one of American Cruise Lines’s more intimate riverboats. American Star offers guests the most spacious staterooms in the US small ship cruising industry. All staterooms are sized between 248 and 350 square feet and are outfitted with full-size bathrooms, modern amenities, and a way to observe the gorgeous passing scenery whether it be through a large picture window or from a private balcony. Additionally, staterooms are served twice a day.
The Owner’s Suite is the most spacious with 350 square feet of personal space. Offering a full-size bathroom, a large sitting area, a writing deck, and a closet, you will feel right at home in this suite. The Owner’s Suite also boasts a private balcony to where you can retreat to enjoy the stunning landscapes of the East Coast. The AAC staterooms, measuring 282 square feet, offer a breathtaking panorama of the scenery due to its location on the top deck. If you book this type of stateroom, you will receive all the extra amenities of the Owner’s Suite. Just 20 square feet smaller but still packed with modern amenities are the AAL staterooms. Along with a large picture window, AAL staterooms also feature a private balcony.
Although they don’t boast private balconies like the other cabin types, AA and A staterooms come equipped with a large picture window to let in not only natural light but also the beautiful sights of America. The two smallest staterooms were designed for solo passengers at a comfortable 248 square feet. These staterooms are outfitted with a twin bed, a full-size bathroom, and a private balcony.
Dining & Gastronomy
American Star has one Grand Dining Room, in which all onboard meals are served. The dining room has open seating and offers delightful, regionally inspired and seasonal meals. The produce, meat, and seafood prepared onboard are sustainable and provided by local farmers’ markets and small American businesses. Preceding every dinner is a cocktail hour with complimentary drinks. Guests can also enjoy drinks at the lounges on the main deck and midship as well as the Chesapeake lounge.
Entertainment and Activities
American Star boasts a casual and friendly atmosphere onboard. Considering that the riverboat is only 217 feet long, even America’s tiniest ports will be able to accommodate the ship’s small size. Port visits are offered daily.
Cruisers can attend lectures and presentations from local experts, guest speakers, authors, and historians. Guests can also spend some down time sitting down with a good book in the Library Lounge. Aside from observing the passing scenery, guests can escape to the sun deck and sunbathe or hit a few balls on the putting green. American Star also offers a fitness center.
It is recommended that guests wear smart casual attire during the day. Cocktail hour and dinner require more formal attire. For men: a dress shirt, slacks or khaki pants, and a sport coat or sweater. For women: a sweater and slacks or a dress. It is also recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, rain gear, and a jacket while ashore.
